Melissa D. Perine of Ellenboro,
W.Va., has been awarded
the 2006 Settlers Bank
Scholarship to Marietta
College. The 2006 Ritchie
County High School graduate
will receive $1,000 a year
for four years
while enrolled at
Marietta College.
With a strong interest in mathematics, Perine plans to pursue a degree in accounting.
She has been accepted into Marietta College’s McDonough Leadership Program and the Honors Program.
"Mathematics has always fascinated me, and I love the challenge of taking a problem to its final resolution,” Perine said.
“I have decided on a public accounting degree because accountants spend a lot of time learning how business really works.
I believe the field of accounting will provide me with stimulating and challenging work in a field that is constantly changing.”
Perine was president of her 2006 senior class and was a member of the National Honor Society for three years.
She also was a member of the yearbook staff for four years and was president of the Ritchie County Chapter of RAZE (a West Virginia tobacco awareness group) as well as a member of Project CHAT (an abstinence group).
The daughter of Rodney and Donna Perine of Ellenboro, Perine has been a member of the Pennsboro Apostolic Church for more than 10 years and is an active member of the youth group there.
Settlers Bank President and CEO Jim Meagle says the scholarship program is a rewarding way to give back to the region.
“Settlers Bank is extremely pleased to be able to give back to the community by awarding these scholarships each year,” he said.
“We feel this is a small gesture of our appreciation for the support that we have received from Marietta and the surrounding communities.” |
